Appendix 7 - Signal Conditioning: What Accessory Choices Are Available?

Analog Signal Conditioning
NI offers several different analog signal conditioning accessories for use with our E Series multifunction DAQ products. These NI signal conditioning accessories offer a low-cost solution for applications requiring only one type of signal conditioning. You can connect NI analog signal conditioning accessories directly to all E Series DAQ devices with cables sold separately. You can power the accessories with the 5 VDC supply on the DAQ device, and offer field wiring, mounting and NI-DAQ driver software.

You can choose from these four devices for analog signal conditioning:
  • AMUX-64T -- a multiplexer with which you can increase the channel count of your 16-channel device to 64, 128, or 256 by using one, two, or four multiplexers
  • SC-2040 -- an 8-channel simultaneous sample-and-hold device
  • SC-2042-RTD -- an 8-channel accessory for RTDs and thermistors
  • SC-2043-SG -- an 8-channel accessory for strain gauges and other bridge-based transducers

Digital Signal Conditioning
National Instruments provides a number of digital signal conditioning solutions. If you need a low-cost, low-channel count digital signal conditioning solutions, consider the following options. When you need to integrate digital signals with other signal types, NI recommends our SCC http://www.ni.com/sigcon/scc.htm system for low-to-medium channel count applications, and our SCXI http://www.ni.com/sigcon/scxi.htm system for higher-performance, higher channel count systems.

Miscellaneous Signal Conditioning Accessories
  • CA-1000 --The CA-1000 is a shielded, configurable signal conditioning enclosure designed for maximum user-defined I/O connectivity and flexibility. The CA-1000 is a portable enclosure for laptop, desktop, and rack-mount applications. In the CA-1000, you can install many NI signal conditioning accessories, such as the SC-204x and SC-207x signal conditioning products and the SCB-68, CB-68LPR, and CB-50LP terminal blocks. The result is a compact, portable, flexible, and comprehensive signal conditioning/interconnection system.
  • SC-205X Series -- The SC-2050 Series are cable adapters used to route DAQ device analog and digital I/O lines to various signal conditioning accessories, including the SC-2040 Series, SC-2060 Series, 5B Series, ER-8/16, and SSR Series devices. Each model of the SC 2050 Series adapts the I/O signals from a class of DAQ products to various signal conditioning accessories. Note: be careful not to connect two accessories requiring common I/O signals to the same SC-205x device.
  • Rack-Mount Kits -- National Instruments offers single and double height rack-mount kits for use with our signal conditioning boards and accessories.
