What is the 5B Series and when is it a reliable option? The 5B Series of analog signal conditioning modules perform single-channel analog signal conditioning for National Instruments E Series DAQ devices. These modules are installed into 8 or 16 channel carriers or backplanes that connect to the data acquisition device, providing assorted isolated signal conditioning on a channel-by-channel basis. 5B Series analog signal conditioning are legacy devices and are a reliable choice when you have a low-channel count application requiring isolation above 300 V. National Instruments recommends our SCC system for low-to-medium channel count applications that do not require this level of isolation, and we recommend our SCXI signal condition system for medium-to-high channel count applications with isolation requirements above 300 V. You connect your I/O signals to connectors in the carrier or backplane of your 5B system, not the modules. After the 5B modules condition the signals, they are routed to your E Series DAQ device. Each module is connected to a dedicated input line of the DAQ device. NI offers a variety of carrier and backplane options for 5B Series modules.
