National Instruments GPIB ASICs

National Instruments is a leading supplier of GPIB ASICs and provides a variety of GPIB controller and talker/listener chips that perform all of the interface functions defined by the IEEE 488 standard. National Instruments provides two types of GPIB ASICs.

TNT High-Performance ASICs

These ASICs provide single-chip IEEE 488.2 talker/listener interfaces to the GPIB. The NI TNT family combines the circuitry of the NAT4882 IEEE 488.2 ASIC, Turbo488 performance-enhancing ASIC, and GPIB transceivers. The NI TNT ASICs are ideal for use in all IEEE 488 instrument designs because of the compact size of the chips, their surface-mount package, and their performance enhancements including HS488, a high-speed protocol for GPIB transfers. The NI TNT family features the TNT5002, which is ideal for designs that interface to a PCI bus, and the TNT4882, which is ideal for generic designs or those that use the ISA bus.

NAT Drop-In Replacement ASICs

National Instruments offers drop-in replacement chips for GPIB controllers from Texas Instruments and NEC. These chips are 100 percent register and pin compatible with the TI TMS9914A and
NEC ?PD7210 controllers on power-up. They also have features that give them complete IEEE 488.2 controller functionality through software. You can use these chips in your existing designs without modifications or you can upgrade your designs to IEEE 488.2 standards.
